A Life of Beginnings and Endings

Otto Heinrich Frank was born on May 12, 1889, the second child of a prosperous family in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. His family owned a bank, and he grew up in a well-to-do household. His life, which began in a world of privilege and comfort, would be forever changed by the tumultuous events of the 20th century.
In May 1925, Otto married Edith Holländer, and together they settled in Frankfurt and had two daughters, Margot and Anne. Otto’s life, which began in a world of privilege, was now centered on his family, a family he would fight to protect with every ounce of his being.

Otto Frank was the only survivor of his family. His wife and daughters all perished in the Holocaust, a tragedy that would haunt him for the rest of his life. After the war, he dedicated his life to sharing his daughter Anne’s story, ensuring that her voice would live on and that the world would never forget the millions of lives lost in the Holocaust.
He died on August 19, 1980, at the age of 91. His life was a testament to the fact that even in the face of unimaginable loss, a person can find a way to honor the past and work for a better future.
